Happy New Year!
Dad’s Gonna Lose It!
Wow! What a year this has been! We got to move into a house that’s been in the works for two years, I quit my job to be a stay at home father and pursue my other interests, my wife was able to find a position in her chosen profession and my young son started school. Nationally we got a new president(whether you approve or not), we’ve seen riots and protests, mass murder, arguments over everything and seen the civil rights movement get so extreme it actually moved itself backwards. On the flip side we’ve seen unemployment plummet, stocks soar, cryptocurrency has captured the world stage, and too many scientific, social and medical advancements to list. It’s been a wild ride!
I would like to think that 2017 ended on a positive note. The struggles and fighting that we have seen as a people are less prominent in the news now than they had been. The media has been caught lying enough to finally begin to force some truth in journalism back into the profession. Our economy is beginning a portion of its recovery that should provide exponential growth to the markets. And maybe, just maybe, all the fighting, arguing and ranting got some things people had been internalizing for a long time off their chests. One can always hope.
However at 12:01 AM January 1, 2018 that page has turned. The chapter is now closed and it’s time to begin writing a new part of the story. I have high hopes for 2018, both for the nation and world as a whole and for my personal life. I have spent much of the holiday season looking at DadDoneLostIt and thinking of ways to improve the site and provide more valuable information and entertainment to you all. Hopefully some of the things I have in store will help you on your way to having a, truly, happy new year!
The holiday season is now officially behind us and we can focus on having something to really celebrate when it rolls around again! I’m not going to write some great, lengthy article here, rather I just wanted to say happy new year and that I hope that yours dreams come true in it. Some small advice, stick to your resolutions, be happy about the changes you see over time and your goal will be easier to reach.
I spent some time recently reflecting on the age-old thought ‘if I had it to do over I would…”. At the end of my contemplation I came to the realization that while going back in time, knowing what I know now, I could change many things to shape my life into what I only dream about now. If I could go back and make the right choices, follow through on the hard stuff then, I would suffer less now. But in the end I can’t. There’s no going back, but I can begin to make hard decisions and follow through now. There’s nothing stopping me from making the me I’ll be in 10 years very proud that I did what was necessary today for a better tomorrow.
So new year’s resolutions may be old fashioned and most people don’t expect to keep them. But I’d like to challenge you to do just that. Stick to your guns and when it gets hard to do so write a letter to yourself in 10 years explaining why you couldn’t follow through. Tell yourself something was more important than you future or too hard. It works wonders for commitments! Tomorrow you’ll either say “I wish I had started then.” or “I’m glad I did this and never gave up!” Your choice. It’s your “happy new year”. Your success or your failure.
I wish you all the best!Follow me on social media!
